St. Peter softball shuts out Fairmont

ST. PETER — Mackenzie Brey fired a one-hit gem to help the St. Peter Saints overpower the Fairmont Cardinals, 10-0 in five innings, during Big South Conference softball action Thursday at Jefferson Fields.

Fairmont’s Taylor Crissinger drilled a double to spoil Brey’s bids for a no-hitter and a rare perfect game.

Brey recorded four strikeouts without issuing a walk in five frames to earn the complete-game victory.

Allie McCabe went 3-for-4 with a double to trigger the Saints’ 11-hit offensive effort, while Brey assisted her own cause with two hits.

Fairmont hurler Jordan Ehlert gave up nine earned runs and struck out four in four-plus innings pitched to absorb the loss.

Fairmont (1-4) travels to Waseca on Monday for a 5:30 p.m. Big South contest.

St. Peter (3-2) hits the road to Waseca next Thursday for another league game.

St. Peter rolled to a 15-5 run-rule triumph over Fairmont during junior varsity action Thursday.

Macey Bearson and Kaitlyn Freese each went 2-for-3 with a run scored to pace the Cardinals’ offense. Freese also drove in a run.

Allison Schwieger, Kaitlyn Scott, Emma Gudahl and Gracie Figueroa each supplied one hit apiece for Fairmont.

Schwieger, Scott and Figueroa each scored a run, while Schwieger and Gudahl each drove in a pair of runs for the Cardinals.
