North Union spikers sweep Spencer; BEA downs St. James Area

ARMSTRONG — Dayna Umscheid produced stellar all-around numbers to power the North Union Warriors to a 25-14, 25-17, 25-19 sweep over Spencer during their regular-season volleyball final on Tuesday night.

Umscheid pounded out eight kills to top a balanced Warriors’ offensive attack to complement seven digs and three aces behind 13-for-13 serving.

Maddie Rolling delivered five kills, five digs and went 9-for-9 serving with an ace for North Union, while Shawna Person distributed 23 set assists to go with two aces behind a 10-for-10 service performance.

Chloe Lofstrom smacked six kills and two aces on 10-for-11 serving, Shayla Reese drilled six kills, May Laverty tallied four kills and completed 15 of 16 serves, and Macie Marlow chipped in six digs and two aces behind 13-for-14 serving.

North Union (8-20) opens the Iowa Class 2A, Region 1 playoffs against Sioux Central at 7 p.m. next Tuesday night in Sioux Rapids, Iowa.

Blue Earth Area 3, St. James Area 1 — Hannah Johnson, Alyssa Ripley and Adri Granillo combined to dominate net play to engineer the Bucs to a 21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-23 Big South Conference triumph over the Saints on Tuesday night in Blue Earth.

Johnson produced 10 kills and 14 digs to complement seven points behind 13-for-15 serving, Ripley pounded out seven kills and seven ace blocks, while Granillo delivered six kills, 11 digs and seven points — including three aces — on 13-for-14 serving.

Maddie Armon distributed 25 set assists and notched a team-best 10 points, including three aces, on 17-for-18 serving for the Bucs, while Olivia Stewart tallied nine points behind a 12-for-12 performance at the line.

Kiera Osmundson scooped up six digs and generated eight points, including three aces, behind 13-for-13 serving for BEA, Sidney Blair supplied seven points on 7 of 9 serving, Eloise Blair contributed 12 digs, while Heidi Herrmann made four ace blocks.

Blue Earth Area (3-19) travels to Trimont on Thursday night to face Martin County West.

New Ulm 3, Fairmont 0 — The Eagles soared by the Cardinals, 25-11, 25-5, 25-7, during Big South Conference play on Tuesday night in New Ulm.

Kylee Harder and Cambrie Anderson each produced eight digs for Fairmont, while Jen Moeller and Sophie Johnson contributed six digs apiece.

Taylor Crissinger hammered three kills to go with two set assists and three digs for the Cardinals, Andrea Westcott doled out three set assists and made three digs, Abby Tonder chipped in two kills, while Chloe Murphy and Kaitlyn Scott each added three digs.

Fairmont (6-17) plays host to St. Peter on Thursday night.

Fairmont netted a 25-21, 25-23 victory over New Ulm during B-squad action Tuesday night.

Kaitlyn Scott served two aces behind an 11-for-11 performance to complement four kills and three set assists for the Cardinals.

Natalie Tonne delivered seven digs and two kills, while Madysen Allen added six digs and two aces behind 7-for-7 serving.

Fairmont collected a 25-20, 25-13 win over New Ulm during C-squad action Tuesday night.

Emily Frank went 9-for-10 serving with three aces and doled out eight set assists for the Cardinals.

Cassidy Schultz pounded out six kills for Fairmont, while Jaya Johnson went 12-for-12 serving with three aces.
