Non-profit gifts quilts to veterans Fairmont resident, Linda Maday, has created a new non-profit, South Central Minnesota Quilts for Veterans, which will give a quilt to each one of Martin County’s 1,200 veterans. What a great goal and a great way to honor our veterans. Thank you to Linda and all involved in this project. Thoughts on the community center To the Editor: Since my graduation from Fairmont High school I have been receiving the Sentinel newspaper following the happenings in Fairmont. My mother still lives there as do several of my siblings. I have been following with great interest the bantering back and forth regarding the Community Center being proposed for Fairmont. Class taught by SRO gives students insight Granada-Huntley-East Chain School is offering a new introduction to criminal justice class this year. Government closure over reducing US debt To the Editor: Again, the Republicans are planning to close the government to force spending reductions that will bring down the budget deficit. I agree with deficit reduction and eliminating government waste. Here is a guiding principle that could help Republicans and Democrats negotiate a bi-partisan agreement that is good for the country. Match every $1 in spending reduction that Republicans propose with $2 increase in taxes half of which goes directly to reduce the deficit. House goes to school in partnership Last week a Habitat for Humanity house was moved into the manufacturing lab in the expanded vocational center at Fairmont High School. I want to share with you these benefits in hopes that you will gain a better understanding of how important the pool is to our community and the surrounding area.
