Kinship of Martin Co. receives blessing To the Editor: We were so blessed this Christmas season in so many ways by those in our community. One amazing gift (no pun intended) we were given was the ability to partner with Grace Lutheran and their Star Tree Program. Kinship was able to nominate some of our families to receive gifts through their annual giving efforts. Stars are placed on the tree in their church with ages and genders of individuals, and then church members and others are able to grab a star and shop for someone while they are doing their own gift shopping. Partnering with local thrift store To the Editor: Thrift stores already give back to a community by providing a space to reuse and repurpose unneeded or unwanted items in a low cost way, enabling people to find needed items and special treasures without breaking the bank. In December, our own local thrift store took it a step further by partnering with Kinship to give back even more to our community. Unsolicited packages in the mail To the Editor: This letter is written in response to the “Letter to the Editor” published Dec 20, 2022, titled: “Mayo response to misinformation on Cologuard tests.” With all due respect to the letter writer from the Mayo Clinic, my Dec. 13 statement was an accurate report of what I and others experienced. Questions as to why not? And basic thinking To the Editor: As we follow what city council does, many in the community ask the question WHY? Why does it seem citizens of Fairmont fear rising taxes? Why do we not see growth? Why is every opportunity blocked that can better our community? Why does it seem to be a unanimous vote like it was decided before discussions even took place publicly? Strong city support To the Editor: The Sentinel’s Dec. 12, front page article titled, “City seeks citizen involvement” was excellent. It is good to see the mayor, city council members and the City Administrator strongly advocating Fairmont residents to work with the city by volunteering their time to fill positions on city boards and commissions. The Fairmont Human Rights Commission is an old commission, created in 1998 by the city. Unfortunately, for a few years, no one has volunteered to be on the commission.
