Lyle K. Anderson

Rural CEYLON — Lyle Kenneth Anderson, 94, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 22, 2026. As a man loved by his family and one who valued and respected his many friends, his absence is profoundly felt by all those blessed to have known him.

Lyle was born on Sept. 3, 1931, on his grandpa’s farm west of Tuttle Lake in Tenhassen Township close to the town of Ceylon. Growing up on a farm next to the lake instilled in Lyle a strong work ethic and a desire to be outdoors. He later demonstrated love of country by volunteering for the draft in February of 1951, becoming a soldier in the U.S. Army and serving in Korea during the Korean War. After his discharge in November of 1952, he came home and became a lifetime member of the Ceylon American Legion serving as Adjutant, Commander and Chaplain throughout his 70 years. He also was a member of the Korean War Veteran’s Association, Inc.

In 1960, at a wedding dance, Lyle met Marian Pytleski, an outgoing, Polish, school teacher from East Chain. They were married a year later on Aug. 12, 1961, at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Chain. They spent 59 happy years together. They were blessed with three children, Mary, Ann and Thomas. Their greatest joy was raising these children on the farm with the motto, “The family that works together stays together.” Their greatest sorrow was losing Mary and Tom to cancer leaving holes in their hearts that remained until their deaths.

In addition to the importance of family, country and farm was Lyle’s faith. He taught his children and grandchildren what it meant to serve God first, others second, himself third. He was an usher, Trustee, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council member, and participated in the Homebound Communion ministry at St. Lukes Catholic Church in Sherburn. His favorite sport was baseball which he played all four years at Ceylon High School. Freshman year he started as a left fielder and his Sophomore through Senior years as a second basemen. He continued to play on the Ceylon Town Team after he returned from the service. Later on, when Tom was older, he coached Little League Baseball and Pony League Baseball. The boys he coached respected and admired him for he was a patient coach and a wonderful role model.

Lyle was a man of integrity and humility with a wit and humor that often caught you off guard. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with every ounce of who he was, pouring himself out for them in any way they needed. He was a kind and considerate man who left no job undone and no friend unappreciated.

Lyle is survived by his daughter, Ann (Pat) Soderlund of New Prague, Minn., son-in-law Doug Rossbach of rural Hanska, Minn., daughter-in-law Carol (Don) Rodgers of Centralia, Miss.; grandchildren, Joseph(Maria) Soderlund, Elizabeth(Brandon) Harald, Michael (Angela) Soderlund, Anthony (Maggie) Soderlund, Mary Soderlund, Nels Anderson, Sarah (Michael) Hooyer, Anna Rossbach; Great grandchildren; Johnny, Andrew, Joseph, Veronica, Benjamin, Anastasia, Olivia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Clara Anderson; wife, Marian Anderson; daughter, Mary Rossbach; son, Thomas Anderson; siblings, Myrtle, Curtis, Luella and Leonard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bravo Zulu House and St. Lukes Catholic Church.
