Marilyn Mae (Espeland) Hughes was born May 11, 1947, in Winnebago, Minn., the daughter of Mike and Amelia (Reynolds) Espeland. Marilyn received her education attending school in Winnebago and graduated from Winnebago High School.
On Oct. 17, 1964, Marilyn was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Francis Hughes at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, Minn. Together the couple made their home in Fairmont and were blessed with three children, Brian, Stacey, and Brad.
Marilyn enjoyed being around people and worked in customer service for many years. She enjoyed taking care of plants both inside and outside and absolutely loved animals. Over the years she and her family had many dogs, cats, and even birds and she loved telling stories about all of them. She had many hobbies and was a very talented crafter. Over the years, she made hundreds of afghans and blankets, cross-stitchings, plaques, wood art, and really any new craft she could get her hands on. Most of all, she loved her family and proudly told stories of her children and all of her grandchildren. Her spunky sense of humor, crafts, baking, and love will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Brian (LeAnn) Hughes, and Stacey Braun; grandchildren, Amber (Tony) Liesse, Derek Hughes, Logan Hughes, Taylor Hughes, Kristin (Jake) Nicoson, Matt (Erin) Madsen, Jared (Lyndsey) Hughes, and Brady Hughes; great-grandchildren, Brynn Nicoson, Cole Nicoson, and Quinn Hughes; as well as many other extended family and friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Amelia Espeland; husband, Gerald Hughes; son, Brad Hughes; two brothers, Bob Espeland and Buster Espeland; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mike and Dorothy Hughes.
