David L. Mosley
FAIRMONT — A Mass of Christian Burial for David L. Mosley, 90, of Fairmont, Minn. will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Military honors provided by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222 will be held outside the church following the service. Burial will be held at Lakefield Cemetery in Lakefield, Minn. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church on Friday. Those wishing to view the livestream of the service may do so by going to the St. John Vianney Church Facebook page. David passed away on Oct. 6, at his home in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
David was born on May 29, 1934, to John and Ella (Kable) Mosley in Jackson, Minn.. He graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1953 and then attended Mankato Vocational School. David served in the National Guards for over 10 years.
On Nov. 22, 1958, Mosley was united in marriage to Deanna Gould at the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato, Minn.. Together the couple made their home in Jackson, Granada, Welcome, and Fairmont and were blessed with four daughters, Jolie, Jean, Jaye Ann, and Jaime Jo.
David worked for Railway Motors and then owned and operated Mosley Moving and Storage. David worked for many years as an over-the-road truck driver for Sammons Transportation where he loved to drive the countryside and see many different places through the years. He loved trucking and one to not sit at home, Mosley went back to work after he retired. He was awarded two 1,000,000 miles of driving safety awards throughout the years. David and Deanna also owned and operated D & D’s Bar and the Redneck Bar.
David was a man of faith and a longtime member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont and was on the Knights of Columbus where he served as a 4th Degree Knight. He was also a member of the Fairmont Eagles Club through the years. David enjoyed dancing with Deanna, playing cards, going to the casino, and golfing. One of David’s favorite places to be was at their family lake house where they spent over 40 years at their own “Private Park” where they enjoyed horseshoes, softball, many volleyball matches, and their karaoke nights with his family. It gave his family the chance to grow up close to their cousins aunts and uncles. They also had fun on the pontoon boats, fishing boats, and jet skis. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching Notre Dame Football and in spite of his daughter’s wishes, he was a huge Green Bay Packers fan. David was the #1 Fairmont Cardinal fan and attended many activities and sporting events. He was a firm believer that the community needs to show up and support all athletes no matter if you have a child or not in the activity or sport. Mosley will be remembered as a man with a huge heart who showed kindness to everyone no matter what.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Jolie Severson of Winona, Minn., Jean (Randy) Kabe of Fairmont, Minn., and Jaye Ann (Lyle) Sopkowiak of Waseca, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Amanda (Rob), Brady, Jason (Sarah), Cameron (Brandi), Jessica (Mark), Ashley, Jenna (Randy), Jacob (Kirsten), Megan (Dru) and Dana (Cole); 26 great-grandchildren and one on the way; foster children, Jenny Vanderford and Liz Paske; brother, Larry (Jan) Mosley of Alpha, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Karen (Merle) Backman and Karen Backman; and many nieces, nephews and other extended families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella Mosley; wife, Deanna Mosley; daughter, Jaime Jo Mosley; brothers and sisters, Eleanor (Bob) Harris, Katherine (Jim) Breiter, Michael Mosley, Louis Mosley, and Eugene Mosley; sister-in-law, Delores Mosley; and other extended families.
