FAIRMONT — A funeral service for Roger F. Swanson, 77, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Roger passed away Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont or the donor’s choice. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Roger Francis Swanson was born Jan. 17, 1944, in Tulsa, Okla., the son of Glen and Helen (Krumholz) Swanson. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1963. Roger was united in marriage to Marsha Myking on Oct. 2, 1976, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. After Marsha’s death in 2002, Roger was blessed to find love again and was united in marriage to Deborah Survis on Jan. 29, 2005, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Roger worked at 3M in Fairmont for 37 years and retired in June of 2005. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont and the Martin County Conservation Club. Roger enjoyed riding motorcycle, traveling and having coffee with the boys. He loved classic automobiles and attending car shows. Back in the day he was a member of the Lakesters Hot Rod Club. Roger cherished his time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved being active with his grandchildren and taking them camping, riding bike and teasing them. Anyone who knew him was drawn into conversation that would end in laughs and smiles. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Deb Swanson; children, David Swanson, Lori (Jim) Nebel, Lisa Swanson, Mary (Mike) Jablonic, Thad (Misty) Swanson, Shonna (Lester) Fenrich, and Corey (Lesley) Survis; grandchildren, Alicia, Zoe, Mitchell, Mason, Levi, Avah, Ella, Lauren and Henry; six great-grandchildren; brother, Denny Swanson; sister, Jeanie Taplin; nieces, nephews and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Helen Swanson; wife, Marsha Swanson; and brother-in-law, Tom Taplin. Roger will be missed and never forgotten. He was a wonderful man who loved life and his family. Our love for him will live on in our memories forever.
