Rita Marie (McNerney) Fitz was born on May 25, 1924, to Patrick and Loretta (Hurley) McNerney in Pleasant Prairie Township, Martin County, MN. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1942.

On December 16, 1944, Rita was united in marriage to Owen H. Fitz at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Fairmont. Rita worked as a secretary to attorney, P.C. Cooper, a telephone operator, secretary at Fairmont Railway Motors and in the admitting office at the Fairmont Community Hospital.

Rita was a charter member of FCH Auxiliary, life member of VFW Auxiliary, and a member of Red Cross. She was also a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont where she was a CCW officer and active in St. Catherine’s Circle. Rita loved travelling, especially her four trips to Ireland, Padre Island and the West Coast. She enjoyed reading and playing bridge.

Those left to cherish her memory include her three children, Kathryn (Bob) Bishop, Steven (Gayle) Fitz and Jane (Jeff) Adamski; grandchildren, Tami Bishop, Greg Fitz, Jeff Fitzkappes, Dan Fitz and Anne-Marie Fitz; great-grandchildren, Desmond, Aiden, Nina, Simon, Junia and Ava; sisters-in-law, Doris (Fitz) Shennum, Carol Fitz, Finnette Walker, and Vicky Fitz; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Loretta McNerney; husband, Owen Fitz; sister, Avis Bird; brother, Francis McNerney; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lyle Bird, Millie McNerney, Zane Fitz, Marjorie Fitz, Bettye (Fitz) Watson, Jothan Watson, Harry Shennum, David Fitz and Al Walker.
