FAIRMONT — Gladys Decker, age 93, of Fairmont, Minn., passed away peacefully Monday evening, Oct. 30, 2023, at Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont, surrounded by her loving daughters. Gladys was born Aug. 28, 1930, in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. Gladys graduated high school and shortly after met her future husband, Max A. Decker in Guantanamo Bay. They were united in marriage on March 16, 1952. This began their love story together. In 1953 Gladys was traveling as a military wife and while stationed got to see and experience many different cultures, countries, and states. Those include Philippine Islands, Guam, Japan, Honolulu, Puerto Rico, St. John, USVI, and several states in the USA. In 1954, while stationed they welcome the birth of their first daughter, Susan Ann, followed by their second daughter, Patricia Jean, in 1956. Gladys and Max family of four was complete and they dropped their anchor in Fairmont, Minn. in 1965. They both enjoyed their several trips down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in retirement.
Gladys had many talents from learning to make Japanese dolls, crochet, sew, knit, along with growing beautiful flowers. Gladys has a special gift of friendship, her best remembered talent was shared by many, she loved to dance. Gladys “Abuela” loved her family and spending time with them. She was proud to be a member of the Eagles Club, VFW and the Legion auxiliary clubs.
Gladys is survived by daughters, Susan (Mark) Mosloski of Fairmont, Minn., Patricia (Todd) Walters of Fairmont, Minn.; grandchildren, Melissa (Michael) Leick, Mathew (Leanna) Mahoney, Sean (April) Donnelly, Nick Donnelly, Andrea Carol, Nicole Kiel and Desie Walters; great-grandchildren, Madysen, Macy and Mitchell Leick, Nevaeh, Amaya and Jada Mahoney, William Donnelly, Jackson Schrupp, Addyson Mortenson, Aiden and Sammy Carl.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alturo and Lidia Bracho; husband, Max Decker; grandparents; and other relatives. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Goldfinch Estates and Mayo Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Gladys.
