In 1956, the movie “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” hit the silver screen. Seed pods from outer space landed on Earth. If a pod were placed near a sleeping person, a visually identical copy of that person would be produced, and only the copy would be left. Each copy had the original person’s personality and memory, but no human emotion. When a parent duplicate was made, for example, the children were sure that the copies were not the real parent. Family support programs were created to fill a need and have been very successful. Our legislators are asked to carefully consider the impact of their votes. Deported immigrants evil To the editor: In Randy Krzmarzick’s recent column, he says we should have empathy for the deported illegal criminals in El Salvador. He condemns Kristi Noem for doing her job, even making a snide remark about the watch she was wearing, saying he was “told” that it was a $50,000 Rolex. So I’m wondering who “told” him, and what has that got to do with the price of tea in China? He compares these prisoners with Nazi concentration camp prisoners. In split vote, city keeps engineer In a 3-2 vote on Monday, the Fairmont City Council decided to go with its current engineer, Bolton & Menk, after considering two other firms. While discussion and even debate is healthy, the city council has an infamous history of split votes. FACC’s community center agreement with Fairmont To the editor: The September 2024 draft agreement the FACC had drawn up by their lawyers states who owns and operates the CC. This agreement is between Fairmont City, FACC, and The FACC Holding Company, yes, there is a third entity. Fairmont city will not own the CC building, just the land, which the city leases to FACC, then FACC leases it back to Fairmont. The length of the lease is 20 years.
