Faribault Co. has focus on parks

BLUE EARTH— “We would like to open the county parks by the middle of April if we could,” Denny Wick of the Public Works Department told the Faribault County Board at their meeting on Tuesday. “We will have to see if the weather permits us to open the parks that early.” Wick also had an update on the pavilion at Pihls Park. “We had a total of four bids to pour new concrete inside the shelter,” Wick said. “The lowest bid came from Grotte Construction of Fairmont and was for $16,033. Sherburn City Council looks at Ringer Drive area

SHERBURN — During the Sherburn City Council meeting on Monday evening, CO-CEDA manager of the EDA in southcentral Minnesota, Dave Schmidt, and the County EDA representative, Nicole Behrens, explained that Sherburn asked them to report on possible contracting to help get developers for the city, especially the Ringer Drive area. They showed the council some work they did in Cannon Falls and Jackson and explained that they usually do not exceed 200 hours of help. EDA elects to attend broadband summit

FAIRMONT – The Martin County Economic Development Authority (EDA) approved attending a broadband summit on April 29, sending a CEDA member to attend and report back. CEDA Specialist Amber Patten said this came across her desk and is being led on a large scale. “Some state leadership is going to be hosting a broadband summit up in the cities on April 29,” she said. “Informational purposes. Gobblers mark past success, look to sustain for the future

FAIRMONT – With the South Central Minnesota Gobblers chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation approaching its 26th annual banquet, much has changed since it first started. Chairman Joe Dubke said the organization holds the banquet as its main fundraiser, showcasing what the group is all about. “We do a fundraising banquet, usually every spring in April,” he said. “Funds are used to basically promote turkey hunting, habitat restoration and youth education.” Around 100 to 120 people join or renew their membership each year, which is done at the banquet. Egg-cellent Easter activities

Project 1590’s Kids Just Want to Have Fun committee, with support from sponsors, put on its fifth annual Community Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday afternoon at Cedar Creek Park in Fairmont. Activities included an egg hunt, arts and crafts, pictures with the Easter Bunny, goody bags and more. While it was a fairly cold day, approximately 200 children came through the come and go event with their family members.
