Sherburn City Council looks for project loan

SHERBURN — At Monday’s meeting, the Sherburn City Council approved applying for a loan from the revolving fund of $500,000 for water improvement projects. This project would be voted on later and only if the loan was approved.

The regular business included a transfer of $53,000 from the Capital Expense Account to the Operating Account at the Temperance Lake Ridge facility to ensure payroll payments. The funds are promised to be reimbursed as soon as the funds are at the TLR that have not been received yet. The reason was stated that the waivers were not done in 2025 and needed to be worked out with the state.

The council heard from City Clerk, Andrea Ballard, who reported that 116 residents out of 520 have signed up for the E-Portal and billing offered by the city with a discount. Almost all of them are paying their bill on time and 55 were refunded. The software to help see water usage has been very helpful to see leaks and the residents have had their bills explained and fixed in those situations. Audit requests showed that the sales tax was not filed correctly after June 2024 and from January to March of 2025 and that was corrected and filed correctly.

The council also held a public hearing concerning conditional use in the city’s industrial zone. The resolution passed with the stipulation that there are no outdoor sales and display of products and that there is a permit annually. The conditional use permit application also passed.
