Lenten services tonight at area churches

SHERBURN — A CREST Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. The program is about Alert Medical Alert System, presented by an Interfaith Caregiver from Blue Earth representative. A lunch will follow. This is a free program for senior citizens in Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation.

The Sherburn Legion will have their Hamburger Night from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, March 4. The menu includes a burger, salad and beans for only $12.

Lenten services will be tonight, March 4, at area churches. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will host their partner church, St. Paul’s from Wilbert at a 6 p.m. service with the youth group serving a lunch of crockpot cheeseburger or ranch chicken sandwiches following the service. The Circle of Faith Parishes meet at Waverly Lutheran Church at 6 p.m. for a lunch and then a 7 p.m. service. St. Luke’s have an 8:30 a.m. service and their partner churches in Lakefield and Jackson will have evening services. On Tuesdays St. Luke has stations of the cross at 5:30 p.m. followed by a mass at 6 p.m. and a meal at 6:30 p.m. Area residents are welcome to join any of these churches for services.

The cribbage tournaments in Welcome will begin with registration at 1:15 p.m. on Saturdays, March 7, 14 at the Welcome Legion Hall. All cribbage players are welcome to join the fun and fellowship on these Saturdays.

The Sherburn Lions will have a Pancake Feed from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 8 at the Martin County West High School in Sherburn. The cost is a free-will donation. The proceeds will support their community projects. Good food for a good cause.

The Sherburn Theatre will feature a movie called, “EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert” at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7, and 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 8. Tickets are $5 and there is a concession stand available.

The Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon will have a Nutt Feed at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, a puzzle race from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 7 and a pancake feed by/for the Ceylon Fire Department from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, March 8.

The American Red Cross blood drives will continue in March with a drive from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, March 4, at MCW High School in Sherburn, March 6 at Fairmont High School, March 11 at Granada-Huntley-East Chain High School in Granada, March 16 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont and April 13 at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. The City of Sherburn is accepting applications for a mayor and a part-time public works employee. Call the City Hall at (507) 764-4491, stop in for an application and see what the eligibility requirements are. City Hall is located at 21 East First Street.

The Township Elections and Annual Meetings are scheduled for March 10. Lake Belt Township will meet at 4 p.m at their grader shed, Fremont Township will meet at Dunnell’s grader shed at 4 p.m., Galena and Manyaska will meet at 8 p.m., Elm Creek will meet at 4 p.m., Jay township meets at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn at 4 p.m., Fraser Township meets at Welcome City Hall at 8 p.m., Fox Lake will meet at their Township Hall at 4 p.m. Check out the schedules for township meetings in the area newspapers.
