Sherburn Legion Hamburger Night tonight
SHERBURN — The CREST Lunch and Learn program will be at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 4 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. The speaker will be Stacy Shamblott from the State Services for the Blind, with a lunch to follow. These programs are free to Martin County senior citizens. Some programs need reservations. Free-will donations are gratefully accepted.
The Sherburn Legion will have their Hamburger Night from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Feb. 4. Get a burger, beans, and salad for only $10.
The annual Karson Janssen Hoops for Heart event on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Martin County West (MCW)-Trimont Elementary School. Many different events will earn money for the Memorial event, to support the 501 (c)(3) charity (donations are tax deductible. One hundred percent of the money earned goes to the charity which sponsors various scholarships, heart screening, grief support and Be Nice Be Humble missions at MCW and the University of Minnesota. In addition to the basketball games, there will be concessions, a bake sale, silent auction, three point contest and Hoops for Heart memorials for sale with proceeds going to the fund. Attend to cheer, buy baked goods, bid, compete and remember Karson.
Martin County Kids Against Hunger Pack Day will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the National Guard Armory in Fairmont. Teams of volunteers fill bags with a mixture that can feed children.
Area cribbage players will have a tournament beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Welcome Legion Hall. They usually meet on the second and third Saturdays, but will add an extra day this month. All cribbage players are welcome.
Sherburn will take applications for the office of Mayor until March 11 at the City Hall. Contact the city at (507) 764-4491 to find the eligibility requirements and details of the application.

The Welcome Fire Relief Association will have its Pancake Feed from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Feb. 8.
The Ceylon Fire Department will host a Build-A-Burger Night from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Sherburn Legion will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10. All members are urged to attend.

The Red Cross Blood drives will be in the area soon. The MCW athletes have events this week. The gymnastics team will host Pipestone at 6 p.m. on Feb. 5 at the Fairmont Armory. The girls’ hockey team will play away at 7 p.m. on Feb. 5. The boys’ hockey team will play at 7:30 p.m. in Waseca. The boys’ basketball team will host Madelia at 7 p.m. Feb. 5 at Trimont Elementary School. The gymnastics team will have a conference meet at noon on Feb. 6. The wrestling team will have a triangular meet on Feb. 6 in Jackson. The girls’ basketball team will host Sleepy Eye at 7 p.m. at MCW High School. The boys’ basketball team will travel to Cleveland for a 7:15 p.m. game. The Karson Janssen event will be on Feb. 7 at Trimont. The B-Squad boys’ basketball team will play at noon on Feb. 7. The B-Squad girls’ basketball team will play at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 7. The varsity boys’ basketball team will play at 3 p.m. on Feb. 7. The girls’ varsity basketball team will play at 5 p.m. on Feb. 7 against the Jaguars. The girls’ hockey team will play away at 1 p.m. on Feb. 7. The girls’ basketball team will travel to Maple River for a 7 p.m. game on Feb. 10. The boys’ basketball team will travel to St. James at 7:15 p.m. on Feb. 10. The hockey teams will both be away with the boys traveling to Redwood Valley at 7 p.m and the girls playing at Gustavus College in St. Peter at 7:30 p.m. Good luck, Mavericks.
