SHERBURN — Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn champions as the best community-oriented, best senior living and best assisted living facility in the Sentinel’s 2025 Best of the Best contest, which prompted surrounding communities to nominate and vote for their favorite establishments within a 50-mile radius in several distinguished categories.

With the establishment having a strong focus on the community, and on behalf of the staff, Executive Director and Director of Nurses Lisa Lange expressed her gratitude to those who selected Temperance Lake Ridge.

“It’s really nice, the community is really committed to this,” Lange said. “Temperance Lake Ridge is always supporting the community. We try to buy as much locally and support surrounding area businesses. We want to keep the rural area going, businesses going, and understand we need each other. It’s very important.”

Several activities the facility puts on include community bingo, Fun Fridays, holiday events, Pup Cup dog visits, pancake/breakfast feed, Paint and Sip, Shop with a Cop and several more in partnership with area businesses and Martin County West schools. These include homecoming involvement, King and Queen of Temperance Lake Ridge, reading to elementary students and more.

In addition to recreational, educational and social activities and events, Temperance Lake Ridge aims to promote resident success, enrichment and comfort, and to offer 24-hour staffing, beauty/barber shops, unique floor plans, religious services, fitness center and other offerings with a comfortable atmosphere.

Currently, Temperance Lake Ridge has 29 memory care and 28 assisted living rooms, representing considerable growth for the facility. Lange, who has been with the facility for 19 years, is committed to its continued evolution. She explained there is currently a wait list for residents.

“Temperance Lake Ridge is always full. People always choose us because of what we offer and the activities,” Lange said.

“The activities keep everyone successful, enriched. We pride ourselves on being a team and a family,” added Activities Director Samantha Potthoff. “Those are the things that make us successful.”

Temperance Lake Ridge operates closely by its mission statement, ‘Enriching the lives of those we serve, because the journey matters’, aiming to create lasting relationships between residents, staff and the community as a whole.

“We recognize the journey doesn’t end, it’s the start of a new beginning. The staff has as much fun as the residents do, and it’s great to see everyone together and making friendships,” Lange said.

Lange described preparations for possible expansions, including daycare and home care outreach services.

“It’s all around a really good place, the residents and the happiness and joys…It’s all so great, and it’s so enriching to [the staff] as well,” Potthoff said.

The staff concurred that being able to spend time and engage with the residents is a rewarding, motivating experience.

“We always look forward to growing closer to them; it’s an incredibly loving environment,” Marketing/Activities Assistant Shayla Fauskee told.
