Sherburn Holiday Festival this weekend
SHERBURN — A CREST Lunch and Learn program will be at 11 a.m. today, June 18, at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. A lunch will follow the program. The program is free to all senior citizens in Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation for the lunch.
The Sherburn Legion will sponsor a Hamburger Night from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, June 18, at the Legion Hall. The menu includes a burger, salad and beans for only $10. Every Hamburger Night in June to September will also feature a fundraiser Bake Sale to help the MCW FFA raise funds for their international trip.
The Library in Sherburn will have artistic activities at 3 p.m. today, June 18. They will be closed tomorrow, June 19, for Juneteenth.
The Trimont Farmer’s Market opens from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday, and also offers coffee and rolls and children’s activities. Trimont will have Sundaes at the Park at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, featuring Lucy Larson as the entertainment.
Tuesday Coffee Hours are from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in June at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. In July, the coffee hours will be held at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee, treats and great fellowship.
An American Red Cross blood drive will be on Friday, June 20, at the American Legion Hall in Fairmont, and on June 30 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome. Make an appointment by contacting (800) RED-CROSS (800-733-2767), go online to www.redcrossblood.org or text ‘BLOODAPP’ to ‘90999’. Blood is critically needed, so give blood if you are eligible. Each unit may save up to three people.
This coming weekend will be the date for the Sherburn Holiday Festival. There will be a chicken feed (with sweet corn and beans) fundraiser for the Fire Relief Association from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 20, at the Sherburn Fire Hall. There will be a street dance from 8 to midnight featuring KJ Sound entertainment. The festival continues on Saturday, June 21, at the City Park with a classic auto and tractor show from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and a Sand Volleyball Tournament at 9 a.m. There will be a Vendor and Craft Show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and several food stands from 11 a.m. to close, which include the Lion’s Foodstand, root beer floats, walking tacos and a beer garden. There will be inflatables, BINGO and a Kids Tractor Pull at 2:30 p.m. The Bee Kays Band will play from 3 to 5 p.m. There will be a street dance from 6 to 9 p.m. featuring Fat City All Stars. The big parade will start at 1 p.m. Sounds like a fun weekend area residents should not miss.
The Sherburn Theatre will feature the movie “How to Train Your Dragon” this weekend. Showtimes are 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 4 p.m. on Sundays. The tickets are $5, and there is a concession stand available.
Condolences to the family of Alice Russenberger, who passed away recently. She will be missed by friends and family.
Martin County West (MCW) Community Education and Recreation is in full swing for the summer. There is Coach T football camp from June 23 to June 27, a Co-Ed Basketball Camp from July 8 to July 29, a Gymnastics Camp, and the Storybook Theatre from July 21 to July 26 featuring the Rapunzel story. There will be a Pork Chop Dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, at the Fox Lake Golf Club. The menu includes a grilled chop, baked potato, baked beans and beverage for $17 ($15 presale). Tickets are available at the door or at Fox Lake Golf Club, Welcome State Bank, Triumph State Bank, Farmer’s State Banks and Bank Midwest.
The Memory Cafe will meet at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 23, at the Temperance Lake Ridge facility for anyone caregiving or family of dementia patients.
The Sherburn/Welcome Police Department is sponsoring a Bike Rodeo on June 28. The Sherburn site is at the High School at 9 a.m., and the Welcome site is by the Fire Hall at noon. All ages may participate and will be given Bike Safety gift bags. Children must wear a helmet and closed-toed shoes. Parents are asked to sign a waiver and be present during the rodeo. Children will learn signals, navigate cones, bike safety, and helmet use.
The St. John’s Lutheran Church will have a Camp Omega Day Camp for children entering first to sixth grade from July 7 to July 11. The Friendship Club from St. John’s will meet at 11 a.m. on July 7 for a Potluck Picnic at the Sherburn City Park (inclement weather site is at the church in Sherburn). All area residents are invited to join them.
