June events planned in Sherburn

SHERBURN — Like the song says, “June is busting out all over” with many events scheduled in the area.

A special memorial for Dan Hanson with a hot dog meal will be at 5:30 p.m. tonight, June 11, at the Pocket Park on Main Street.

The Martin County Foxes baseball team will play against Jackson Bulls at 7:30 p.m. tonight, June 11, at Truman.

A farmers’ market is from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday at Anderson Park in Trimont. Pick an event to celebrate June.

The city-wide garage/rummage sales begin tomorrow, June 12, in Sherburn. Maps are available at Casey’s and Midwest Bank. Next weekend is Sherburn’s Summer Festival, June 20 to 21.

The Sherburn Library is sponsoring a Magic Show at the Sherburn Theatre at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow, June 12, and will have 4-H activities at 3:30 p.m. at the library. The magic show will then be at 4 p.m. at Trimont’s Triumph Hall.

The Sherburn Theatre will feature the movie “How to Train Your Dragon” this weekend with showtimes at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday. This movie will also be shown next weekend. The tickets are $5. There is a concession stand available.

The Lions Golf Tournament will be held with an 11 a.m. check-in, a noon shotgun start and a 4 p.m. dinner on Friday, June 13, at the Fox Lake Golf Club. The fee is $45 per golfer. For further information, call (507) 236-2444.

Condolences to the family of Karen Jarrett, who passed away recently. She will be missed by family and friends.

Sunday is Father’s Day. Happy Father’s Day to all the area dads, grandpas and those who are like a father to area children.

Tuesday coffee hours continue from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday in June at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for good coffee, treats and great fellowship.

The Mayo Mobile Clinic will be in Sherburn 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, June 16, and Wednesday, June 18, near the City Hall. Call the appointment number at (507) 238-8500 and mention Sherburn.

The Sherburn Legion will have its Steak Fry Night from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 14. Choose a ribeye, shrimp or pork chop dinner with a salad bar, baked potato and garlic bread for $20.

The Ruby’s Pantry grocery distribution will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 16, at the Regional Worship Center parking lot. $25 gets you a trunk full of groceries. If you have boxes from previous distributions, bring them along and give them to the volunteers. There are no residential or income guidelines. A partial list is usually on Facebook prior to the distribution date.

The Sherburn City Council meeting will be at 5 p.m. on Monday, June 16 at City Hall. There is always a time for public comments and questions at the beginning of each meeting. To be on the regular agenda, please call the City Hall prior to the meeting date at (507) 764-4491. Just a reminder, the City Hall is open only before noon on Fridays. The City also asks that the grass clippings be discharged onto the lawn and not in the street, since they plug up the storm drain. Please also do not flush non-biodegradable items, even if they say they are flushable. Thank you for your cooperation. The Martin County West School Board is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 16, at the Elementary School in Sherburn.

June 20 will be the Firemen’s Chicken Feed and Street Dance and the Sherburn Summer Festival on June 21 with the parade at 1 p.m.
