FFA Week Feb. 17-24
TRUMAN — The Truman Lions burger bash will be held 5-7 p.m. Saturday at the Truman Community Building. Come and enjoy a 1/3 pound burger, burger toppings, baked beans, chips and a beverage.
National FFA Week will be celebrated Feb. 17-24 this year. On Friday, Feb. 23, wear blue to show your FFA pride on National Wear Blue Day. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
Graduating seniors of Martin County high schools who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in agriculture or an area of study that services agriculture, may apply for up to $8400 in scholarships. In partnership with the Agriculture Future of America (AFA), the Agri-Business committee of the Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce is offering two $4,200 scholarships, which include registration for the fall of 2024 AFA leaders conference. Lewisville Legion Auxiliary chicken supper will be held 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, at the Lewisville Legion.
Due to Presidents Day on Monday, Feb. 19, the Truman City Council will meet 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20. All meetings are open to the public. The city has implanted new guidelines for public comment during council meetings. Visitors may address the council by filling out a public comment form and submitting it to Melissa prior to the meeting. Public comments time is now limited to five minutes per speaker.

Second Harvest Heartland, nutrition assistance program for seniors, will be held 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21. Come to Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman to pick up your box. Eligibility is based on age, 60 years and up, household size and income. Pre-register at 1-800-365-0270.

It’s time for battle of the books. Throughout February each grade level will be individually reading books to battle with another class to win a class pizza party. Thursday, Feb. 15 is creations: students will create bookmarks in class. Friday, Feb. 16 is Read & Feed: wear your pajamas, bring a blanket, pillow, stuffed animal and FOOD to snuggle and getting caught up on missing assignments. One snack will be provided by the school.
