Truman Days begins today
TRUMAN — Enjoy a fun filled weekend of garage sales, a vintage tractor ride, farmers market, craft and food vendors, bingo, beanbags and grass volleyball tournaments, 5K run, Belgian waffles, softball tournaments, many activities for all ages at Graf Park and the grand parade at 5 p.m. on Saturday, followed by fireworks at 10 p.m.
Truman Days kick off today, July 25, from 7-8 p.m. with 42 all-city garage sales that will run through Saturday. Some sales are one day, some two and some all three. Maps are available at Casey’s. Be sure to check maps for the days and times to be held. Bargains are waiting for you.
The Truman swimming pool will be open for swimming from 1-8:30 p.m. Thursday to Sunday. Check out the mini golf course and play for free.
The Truman classic tractor ride is Friday. Lineup begins at 7:30 a.m. at Prairieland, 801 E. 5th St. North in Truman and at 8 a.m. they will leave to travel the county roads. A noon lunch will be served at Graf Park for the participants, provided by CFS and Profinium. If you have any questions, call Mary Lou at (507) 236-1656.
The Truman Museum is having a quilt raffle for two donated hand-stitched quilts created by Jennifer Schuster, daughter of Doyle and Arlene Peterson. One is a sun bonnet sue pattern and the other is a Dresden plate pattern. Tickets are $2 for one chance or three chances for $5. Those purchasing a ticket may select which quilt they want to take a chance on. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 26, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 27, during Truman Days for those interested in tickets. The raffle drawing will take place at the museum right before the parade that starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday. You need not be present to win.
Bingo and hotdogs are from 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the community building in Truman.
A memorial bean bag tournament begins at 5 p.m. Friday, July 26, at Graf Park and continues at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at Aardvarks.
Kids mini triathlon is set for 6 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the school parking lot. Bike, run and sprinkler at the finish. Register at trumandays5k@gmail.com. This is a free event.
Enjoy your Dad’s Belgian waffle breakfast from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Truman
Community Building sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church. All-you-can-eat waffles are $10 for adults while kids, ages five and under, are free. Take-outs are available. You will dine in air-
conditioned comfort.
5K race at 7 a.m. Saturday, July 27, from the Truman High School parking lot. Kids pedal pull at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Graf Park. Kids bean bag tournament for ages 9-12 and 13-17 Saturday at Graf Park. Pre-register, with player names, team name and the age category, by 9:30 a.m. with Missy at schudermissy@gmail.com or calling (507) 432-5010. Free event with prizes awarded. There will be bouncy houses from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Graf Park for a nominal fee.
McDermott’s horse drawn wagon rides starting 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Graf Park. Musical entertainment in Graf Park will be the Kittleson Family at noon, Ryan and Braelyn Faber at 2 p.m., Schell’s Hobo Band at 3:30 p.m., Dixieland Groove Pickup Band and SuFuDu at 7 p.m. and Misguided at 8:30 p.m.
The Truman Museum is presenting “Minnesota Fabulous Firsts” and “Minnesota in the Civil War,” by reenactor Arn Kind. This event will be held 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Truman Community Building. This is free educational entertainment for all ages.
In honor of their parents 50th wedding anniversary, the children of Dennis and Sylvia Burmeister will host an open house from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman. Cards can be sent to Dennis and Sylvia at 10293 473rd Ave., Truman. MN 56088.
Fireworks will be held 10 p.m. Saturday night. The fireworks will be shot off from the Truman Gun Club and should be seen from anywhere in town.
Sunday church services are 9 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran, 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran and 10:30 a.m. at Church of Christ.
Vacation Bible School, for ages 3 and up, will be held 3-6 p.m. July 29-31 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman. Please register by July 28. Call or text Ashley at (507) 829-9741. The theme is: Water in the Bible. There will be snacks, water games, crafts and Bible stories.
