Council considers theatre request
SHERBURN– The Sherburn City Council met on Monday evening. Biny Clausen from the MCW Drama Department requested that the two rows of seats on each side of the theatre be removed since they are not in good shape and the orchestra would have more room when the school plays are held in the theatre. The seats are too close to the stage and orchestra anyway. The large speaker was also discussed and Biny Clausen asked if they could move it during the play and look into getting some new stands for the speakers. The next school play will use the theatre on Nov. 17 through 19 for a play called “Little Mermaid.” Clausen said they truly appreciate being able to use the theatre for their school productions and thanked the Council for approving her requests.
The Administrator’s report reminded all that the applications for Liquor Store/Red Carpet manager are due this Friday. There was a need to repair a cooler at the liquor store at a cost of $4,000. Generators by the Fire Hall and Temperance Lake Ridge are in need of repair/replace.
A discussion of the mid year mini audit in September was held. There may have to be some changes in the General Fund and since there were some larger expenses the budget was under budgeted. One large expense was the replacement of the membranes at the water plant. The cost was more than expected but that should be done now for five years. Some insurance costs are being looked into also.
The Council approved an assessment of unpaid Municipal charges such as sewer, water and mowing done by the city for property owners. This will be added to their taxes. Seventy-six notices were sent and some paid their bills or set up a payment schedule.
The Council also approved some special assessment deferrals from the Osborne and other streets projects. The criteria for deferring assessment was that the owner was 65 years old or older, retired, or on permanent disability. The applications for deferment were voted on individually. Should the owner pass away the assessment is on the property.
The EDA property on north Osborne owned by the EDA was discussed. This property will eventually be used for a new well if it is needed.
