Musicians shine at solo/ensemble contest
FAIRMONT — One-hundred-ten students from across Fairmont Area High School’s music program travelled to participate in solo and ensemble contest on Monday, March 6, at Minnesota State University in Mankato. Judging for the event was spread across 8 sites with different judges, and Fairmont students won best in site at 5 of these. Solveig Senf from the band program won best in site for the second year in a row, a very uncommon feat. Other best in site winners include, choir soloists Jaelynn Pierce and Kyler Wolters, violin soloist Bekah Landsteiner, and a orchestra quartet consisting of violinists Hudson Laven, Matthew Malo, violist Selma Blees, and cellist Lilly Laven. The event is considered to be the kick-off for Fairmont’s Music in our Schools Month, a national observation promoted by the National Association for Music Education.
