Council preps for upcoming year
SHERBURN — The Sherburn City Council met Tuesday, since the regular meeting date of Monday was a holiday. Sarah Kramer was sworn in as a new council member. The council asked if there could be more itemized billings and that will be done. They discussed the incubator for businesses and the time limit being too long. The designated newspaper for the council will be the Martin County Star and the attorney will also stay the same. There was some discussion about the attorney for the City such as asking for billable hours done in
2022 and if the payment should be hourly.
The council approved keeping the same attorney and staying with $2,500 a quarter for payment. Finding a local attorney is hard and some do it virtually from the Twin Cities. It is beneficial to have an in-person attorney in court. The council approved looking into the League of Cities for help in possibly finding a city attorney for the future. The council also discussed the cost of living increase for City employees (hourly and salaried). In the budget, 6 percent was approved. The council approved doing increases with a 4 percent increase and a 2 percent increase when employees show extra motivation and skills. There are some performance evaluations coming up for several employees.
The council was asked to confirm that there is a new management company working with the Temperance Lake Ridge facility. The council asked about any bills still not paid from 2022 and made the deadline to confirm the old management company not working with TLR to be Feb. 21, 2023, to make sure all bills are paid.
Council reports asked about townhouses and the deadline to work on them.
City employees have been working on snow and slush removal now that the holiday is over. The water surcharge will be on the January bills. They discussed the plans for the two stores south of the bank on Main Street. The police commission will be meeting in January to determine contracts etc.
The next meeting of the Sherburn City Council is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Feb. 6, at Sherburn City Hall.
