Man faces assault charge

FAIRMONT — A Fairmont man is facing felony charges in Martin County. Chad Alan Pina, 44, has been charged with one count of assault with a dangerous weapon in the second degree, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine. Pina is also charged with one count of making threats of violence, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

At approximately 7:31 p.m. on January 6, 2021, Fairmont police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of North Hampton Street on a report that Pina was threatening people. Officers arrived at the house and detained Pina and spoke with people at the scene.

An adult woman indicated that Pina had gone to work earlier in the day and then returned home drunk and belligerent. She indicated that she and a child were sitting in the living room when Pina came out of his room and continued to act belligerently. She stated that she observed him holding a knife in his hand, down at his side.

An adult man indicated that he came out into the living room and observed Pina standing in the living room in front of the woman. He stated he removed the child from the room.

The woman advised that Pina was yelling and swearing at her and stated he was going to kill everyone in the house. She advised that Pina continued to hold the knife to his side as he said this.

The woman then indicated that Pina then held up his finger like a gun and said that he was going to shoot everyone in the house. The man also stated he heard Pina make these statements.
