Fairmont officer arrested, awaiting charges

FAIRMONT– Dustin Schwebke with the Fairmont Police Department has been arrested and is awaiting charges following an investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA). Schwebke has been with the Fairmont Police Department since 2007.

According to a press release, which came from the City of Fairmont Police Department on Friday, June 19, on the evening of May 30, 2026, Fairmont Police Department responded to a civil-custody issue involving Schwebke. Due to the conflict of interest, Martin County Sheriff’s Office was requested to conduct the investigation.

On June 15, an adult reported additional crimes to the Fairmont Police Department and the accusations involve Officer Schwebke so on June 17, the Fairmont Police Department requested that the BCA take on the case.

On June 18, BCA agents arrested Schwebke in Parkers Prairie without incident and he is being held in the Otter Tail County Jail in Fergus Falls awaiting his first court appearance on probable cause charges:

— Felony- Criminal Sexual Conduct- 3rd degree

— Felony- Threats of Violence- Reckless Disregard Risk

— Felony- Tamper with Witness- 1st Degree- Prevent Inform to Police, Active

— Misdemeanor- Domestic Assault

Schwebke has been placed on administrative leave. The investigation is ongoing and any further information will be provided by the BCA.
