Town & Country Players offer musical this weekend
The Blue Earth Town & Country Players will be presenting their 2024 summer musical, “Church Basement Ladies, a Heavenly Comedy,” beginning 2 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14 and 15 on the stage of the PAC at Blue Earth Area High School. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. for ticket sales; patrons may collect their tickets at this time. All seats are general admission and are only $15. The show is produced by arrangement with Troupe America, Inc.
Minnesota’s Fabulous Firsts at the Fairmont Library
Did you know that Minnesotans were the first to volunteer troops to fight in the Civil War? Did you know that Minnesotans were not only responsible for foiling the James – Younger Gang’s attempt at robbing our banks, but that they also put an end to the criminal reign of this infamous outlaw gang? Did you know that a famous aviator, raised in Minnesota, was the first to make a solo, non-stop flight across the Atlantic, stretching and proving the capabilities of aircraft? Did you know that Minnesotans fired the first shots at the beginning of America’s involvement in the Pacific War of World War II? Learn about all these feats and more. Join library staff for Minnesota’s Fabulous Firsts featuring Arn Kind starting 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the Fairmont Library, 110 N. Park St. in Fairmont. There is no cost to attend this event, and no registration is required. This program was made possible in part with a grant from the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund of the Minnesota Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment through the Traverse des Sioux Library System.
Valley Quilters set Monday meeting
The first meeting of the Blue Earth Valley Quilter’s 2024-2025 year will be held 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, in the media center at Blue Earth Area High School. Please enter through Door C. They will start the meeting with introductions and show-and-tell. The program will be basic sewing machine maintenance – what can/should be done at home and when to have it professionally checked out. We will discuss the bag sewing class and program for the October meeting and a bus trip to Missouri Star and that area next summer. Blue Earth Valley Quilters is organized under the auspices of the Blue Earth Area School District’s Community Education Program. They meet the third Monday of the month at BEA High School, with no meetings in December or July. The quilting group is open to everyone who enjoys quilts or quilting. IHD meeting Wednesday
Interlaken Heritage Days board elections, including officers, will be held 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, in the shelter house at Gomsrud Park in Fairmont. Anyone interested in joining the committee and/or board is encouraged to attend.
CREST to host Balance Matters class in Fairmont
Enhancing the quality of life, CREST of Martin County will be presenting the class “Balance Matters” on Thursdays from 9:30-11 a.m. beginning Thursday, Sept. 19 and concluding on Oct. 10, at the CREST office, 820 Winnebago Ave. in Fairmont. This four-session class is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. It includes an exercise program, identifying our fears & finding options for overcoming them. We also check our homes for safety/falling issues. This curriculum is good for planning ahead to still do the things we like to do. Anyone having concerns about falling or wanting to improve their balance, flexibility, and strength is encouraged to attend. Registration is required to provide the needed materials and a $10 donation is suggested to help cover the costs. Registration deadline is Sept. 16. Pokemon Card Club Thursday at library
Next, join library staff for an all ages Pokemon Card Club beginning 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Fairmont Library, 110 N. Park St. in Fairmont. Bring your cards or borrow some of theirs.
