City Band begins concert season

The Fairmont City Band will perform their first summer concert of the season beginning 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at the band shell in Sylvania Park in Fairmont. The band will perform marches, show tunes and standard concert band literature. Intermission entertainment will be provided by Lee Kanten. Interlaken Heritage Days Committee will again be operating the concession stand on concert nights. A variety of items will be for sale with proceeds going toward expenses for IHD activities. City Band is always looking for new members. If you have completed the 10th grade please consider joining them. There are no tryouts or auditions. Rehearsals begin at 6 p.m. In case of rain both rehearsal and concert will be cancelled. For cancellation, listen to local radio stations or check the Fairmont City Band Facebook page after 5 p.m. on concert nights.

Dunnell church to host Wednesday pie social

The Women of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dunnell will be hosting a barbecue/pie social fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at the church located at 315 N. Seeley Ave. in Dunnell. There will also be hotdogs, beans, homemade potato salad, chips, pickles, ice cream and beverages. Take-outs are available and there will be whole pies available for purchase. Free will offering. The church is handicapped accessible from the north side. Everyone is welcome.

Community worship Wednesdays in Fairmont

Grace Lutheran Church of Fairmont will host community worship from 6:30-7 p.m. each Wednesday through Sept. 4, in the bandshell at Sylvania Park in Fairmont. They will have a live worship band along with messages of faith and hope from area pastors and community members. In case of rain, they will hold this service in the shelter house at Sylvania Park. Everyone is welcome.

Class of 1962 to lunch

Fairmont High School class of 1962, spouses and friends will meet for lunch 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 13, at the Pizza Ranch in Fairmont. All classmates are encouraged to attend.

College News

The following area students were named to the dean’s list for the 2024 spring semester at the University of Minnesota, Duluth: Fairmont — Sabrina Segar, Carolina Hernandez Silva; Granada — Kiana Preston; Truman — Jakob Fischer.

Emma Gudahl of Fairmont and Jayden Smith of Truman were named to the dean’s list for the 2024 spring semester at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
