FFA pumpkin fundraiser

Fairmont FFA is selling pumpkins throughout the community. The pumpkins are $5 each. Buy one and get one free for the little ones. They will be selling them at Fairmont Elementary all this week, the soccer tailgate tonight, Sept. 29, and at the Fairmont High School and the homecoming football game on Friday. Pumpkins were grown, weeded, and picked by Fairmont FFA members.

Free kid’s clothing swap Saturday

The Christian Church of Fairmont and Bethel Free Evangelical Church are hosting their first ever Kid’s Clothing Swap from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Christian Church located at 625 Johnson St. in Fairmont. They are inviting everyone in the community to come out on Saturday in getting some slightly used clothes to get ready for spring and summer. This event is free and for everyone. If any clothes remain after the event, they will be donated to 12 Baskets/Options Pregnancy Center.

Sportsman Club sets shooting event

East Chain Sportsman’s Club will hold their final trap shoot event for this year beginning noon Sunday, Oct. 2, at the club located a half-mile north of East Chain. They will be shooting practice rounds, then 16-yard and 25-yard Oakley’s and Boondocks. The grill will be on all day. For more information, contact Moby at (507) 236-4189. Everyone is welcome.

Blackwood Quartet plans concert Sunday in Lone Rock

The Fabulous Blackwood Quartet will be in concert beginning 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church in Lone Rock, Iowa. A free will offering for will be taken with all of the proceeds going to the quartet.

The quartet brings the word of God through song, characterized by four-part harmony in southern gospel style. This is a chance to hear some great gospel music close to home. Everyone is encouraged to come and enjoy the musical evening that is planned.

55+ driver program scheduled next week

Minnesota Highway Safety Center will offer a 55+ Driver Improvement Course next week. There will be a four-hour Refresher Course taught by a certified instructor from the Minnesota Highway Safety and Research Center from 5-9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the community education room at Southern Minnesota Educational Campus (SMEC), 115 Park St., Suite 131 in Fairmont. The fee is $24. The courses are open to the public; pre-registration is required.
