Great Books will meet 9:30 a.m. Monday in the back room of the Ranch Restaurant, Fairmont. The story is “Ancient Rome” by Kyle McCarthy.

Truman class of 1959 to meet

Truman High School class of 1959 will meet 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pizza Ranch, Fairmont. All classmates and friends are welcome.

Historical Society plans open house

Martin County Historical Society in Fairmont will hold an open house 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at 304 E. Blue Earth Ave. They will celebrate the opening of their new display room, the Kesler Room, which houses many artifacts from Fairmont Railway Motors/Harsco. The public is welcome.

First Congregational plans free meal

First Congregational United Church of Christ will host a free meal 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 319 Downtown Plaza, Fairmont. The meal will consist of chili, crackers, bread, applesauce and bars. Everyone is invited.

55+ driver program scheduled next week

Minnesota Highway Safety Center will offer a 55+ Driver Improvement Course next week. There will be a four-hour Refresher Course from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Wednesday at MCW Elementary. Cost is $22. These courses are open to the public; pre-registration is required. People age 55 and older who complete the course qualify for a 10 percent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years. Friendship Village to host Halloween event

Children are invited to a trick-or-treat event from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday in the community center at Friendship Village, 500 Home St., in Fairmont.
