St. John Vianney plans Sunday meal

A free hot meal hosted by St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont will be held 6 p.m. Sunday in the hospitality area at the church. The church serves a free meal the fourth Sunday of every month. Everyone is welcome.

Library to host ‘glow bingo’ event

Martin County Library, Fairmont, will host Family Fun Night at 6 p.m. Monday. There will be glow bingo. Those who attend are invited to wear their Halloween costumes and win prizes. There is no cost to attend and the event is open to the public. Fore more information, call the library at (507) 238-4207.

CREST to host new volunteer training

CREST says it has an urgent need to add to its volunteer base as snowbirds will head south soon and the number of those needing help in Martin County has increased. CREST will host a training session for new volunteers at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at CREST offices, 820 Winnebago Ave., Fairmont. CREST has volunteer opportunities in friendly visiting, telephone reassurance, home helper, transportation, minor home repair and respite care. Reservations are required so volunteer manuals can be ordered. Those interested may call (507) 235-3833 by Friday afternoon.

The following area students were awarded scholarships from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University in Ames: Easton — Beth Stevermer received the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Dean’s Leadership Scholars for the 2019-2020 academic year; Jacob Stevermer received the CALS Student Recruitment for the 2019-2020 academic year; Granada — Madeline Mathiason received the Arlene & Harold Estes Agriculture Scholarship for the 2019-2020 academic year; Truman — Lydia Studer received the CALS Student Recruitment for the 2019-2020 academic year; Wells — Kendra Schultz received the Edna Rathman Endowed Scholarship in Agriculture Studies, and the Carl and Marjory Hertz Family Scholarship for the 2019-2020 academic year.
