Early childhood screening next week

Fairmont Area Schools will offer Early Childhood screenings for children born between Sept. 1, 2014, and Aug. 31, 2016, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Fairmont Elementary School. Minnesota law requires that all children entering kindergarten be screened prior to the start of school. It is recommended that this screening be done around the age of 3. Appointments for ECS may be made by calling Fairmont Area Schools at (507) 235-6205 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

CREST to host Alzheimer’s tour

CREST will host the Martin County stop on a statewide tour that explores Alzheimer’s disease at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fairmont Evangelical Covenant Church, 901 Woodland Ave. The speaker will be Dr. Joseph Gaugler, a long-term care professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota. He hopes to meet with families and professionals to talk about Alzheimer’s disease, share information and stories, and help individuals realize they are not alone on the dementia journey. There is no charge to attend this presentation but an RSVP is required. Call the CREST office by Friday at (507) 235-3833 to make a reservation or for more information about the program.

Reception slated for Grand Master

There will be an open house reception honoring Douglas Klocek at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Winnebago Area Museum, 16 Main St. South, Winnebago. A lunch will follow. Klocek is serving as the 2019-2020 Grand Master of Minnesota, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The event is hosted by Winnebago City No. 30 and Starlight Rebekah No. 11 lodges.

Odd Fellows to choose student delegate

The Pilgrimage for Youth Committee, Minnesota Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, will meet 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Winnebago Area Museum, 16 Main St. South, Winnebago, to select a student to participate in the 2020 tour next summer. High school sophomores and juniors are eligible. Delegates visit various historical sites, museums, government buildings and memorials in the United States and Canada.
