Simon reunion planned for Sunday

Simon family reunion will be held noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Creek Park in Fairmont. All family members are encouraged to attend.

Music event Sunday in East Chain

A country/gospel concert hosted by East Chain United Methodist Church featuring Bob Petrowiak and Gary Barnes will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Wolter Park in East Chain. Guests are asked to bring lawn chairs. Ice cream cones will be served after the concert. Everyone is welcome.

Class of 1970 reunion committee to meet

Fairmont High School class of 1970 reunion committee for the 50-year high school reunion will meet 3 p.m. Sunday in the shelter house at Ward Park in Fairmont. All class members willing to help with the reunion are welcome to attend. Those whose contact information (address, phone, email) has changed since the previous reunion(s) are asked to call to update their records. Arc to meet on Monday

Arc Family and Friends will meet 6 p.m. Monday in the George Room at the Fairmont Holiday Inn. For more information, call the Arc office at (507) 235-8580.

Adult education and English classes begin

Free Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English classes are available at Fairmont Community Education and Recreation located in room 158 at Fairmont Elementary School. (Enter through door 15A on south side of the school). ABE classes begin the week of Sept. 9 and meet as follows: Mondays (ABE/GED), 6:30-9 p.m.; Wednesdays (Learn English), 1-3 p.m.; Wednesdays (ABE/GED), 5-7 p.m.; Thursdays (ABE/GED), 12:30-2:30 p.m.; Thursdays (Learn English), 7-9 p.m.; Saturdays (ABE/GED/English), 9-11 a.m. Computer lab and enrollment also available by appointment. ABE is a program that is available, free of charge to all adults 17 and older who are not enrolled in the K-12 school system. They can learn English or prepare for the GED exam. They also can strengthen skills in math, communication, reading comprehension and writing, as well as learn keyboarding, beginning computer skills, how to balance a checkbook, and gain confidence in taking tests, completing job applications and more. Informal classes, literacy lab and distance learning options are available. Sponsored by CER and Southwest ABE Consortium. Contact the CER office at (507) 235-3141 to learn more.
