Great Books to meet

Great Books will meet 9:30 a.m. Monday at June Bowdin’s home, 399 W. Amber Lake Dr., Fairmont. The story is “Maidencane” by Chad B. Anderson.

Red Cross blood drives planned next week

There will be two blood donation opportunities in the area next week. First, the Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 12:30-6:30 p.m. Monday at the Kiester Community Center. It also will hold a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Winnebago Community Center. The Red Cross urges all eligible donors, especially platelet donors and those with type O blood, to make an appointment to give in the coming days to help restock the shelves for hospital patients. Martin Luther to host Chili Challenge

The Martin Luther High School class of 2021 will sponsor the 2019 Chili Challenge during the Jags home game vs. Madelia on Tuesday at Martin Luther High School in Northrop. Several teams will serve their chili recipes for sampling and in competing for the most votes. Chili will be available for sampling from 5-7 p.m. at a cost of $5 per person. Anna Meyer of Trimont and Rebekah Rusert of Truman were named to the honors list for the fall semester at Concordia University in Seward, Neb.

Brenna Horkey, Derek Hunwardsen and Emily Kim, all of Fairmont, were named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.
