St. John Vianney women to hold sew-a-thon

St. John Vianney Council of Catholic Women will hold a sew-a-thon Saturday in the hospitality area at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. The project is Britches for Boys, made from T-shirts, which will be sent to the Haiti missions. An expert sewer will be on hand to guide sewers through the process. The public is welcome. Those interested are asked to bring their sewing machine, ball point needles, scissors and anything that can be used for a drawstring. Red Cross blood drives planned next week

There will two blood donation opportunities next week in the area. The Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 12:30-6:30 p.m. Monday at Butterfield High School, 440 Hubbard Ave., in Butterfield. There also will be a blood drive from 1-7 p.m. Monday at Shiloh Lutheran Church, 108 E. Jay St., in Elmore. Call (507) 943-3749 or (507) 525-2407. All eligible donors, especially platelet donors and blood donors with type O blood, are asked to make an appointment to help restock the shelves for hospital patients. Martin County Library to host Code Academy

Children ages 7-10 interested in learning to code may join library staff for Code Academy at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Martin County Library in Fairmont.
