Rorman scores. Lofstrom scores. Rorman with the rebound. Lofstrom with the rebound. Rorman deals the assist. Lofstrom deals the assist.
Local radio announcers in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa found themselves repeating those above phrases time after time throughout the 2018-19 prep girls basketball season.
The repetitive trend continues as Blue Earth Area senior forward Caitlin Rorman and North Union junior post player Chloe Lofstrom have been selected as this year's Fairmont Sentinel's All-Area girls basketball captains for a second consecutive campaign.
But the individual accolades do not end there as both standout student-athletes merited spots on their respective all-state teams in back-to-back fashion. Lofstrom was chosen to the Iowa Class 2A all-state third team this winter after netting second-team honors in 2018, while Rorman netted honorable mention Minnesota Class 2A all-state status for a second straight season.
While Lofstrom will be a prime candidate for selection to the Iowa all-star roster during her final prep campaign next winter, Rorman will test her skills against 39 of the state's best hoopsters during the Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association's all-star series on Saturday, April 13, at Carleton College in Northfield.
"Caitlin is very deserving of the selection to the all-star series," said Blue Earth Area head coach Al Cue. "When I look back and think about how she went from a role player on the varsity as an eighth-grader to developing into a leader both on and off the floor throughout the next four years, it makes me proud to have been her coach."
The four-time all-Big South Conference East Division choice exits her prep basketball career at Blue Earth Area as the program's No. 2 all-time leading scorer with a staggering 2,031 points on the strength of the Bucs' No. 2 all-time single-season scoring total of 635 points this winter. Only former University of Minnesota Golden Gopher standout Shannon (Schonrock) Swanson has produced more points in Blue Earth Area's rich girls basketball history.
The four-time All-Area choice was among the 2018-19 Minnesota state leaders with her 26.5-point scoring clip, fueled by 194-for-322 shooting from 2-point range for 60.2 percent, 38-for-89 shooting behind the arc for 42.7 percent, and a 133-for-173 performance at the free throw line for 76.9 percent.
The Gustavus Adolphus College basketball commit also topped the Bucs this season by grabbing 203 rebounds (8.5 rpg), in addition to pocketing 59 steals and distributing 52 assists.
While Rorman eclipsed the rare 2,000-point career scoring plateau, the 5-foot-11 Lofstrom cleared the 1,000-point barrier during her third varsity campaign at North Union.
The two-time All-Area choice topped the Warriors in both scoring and rebounding for a second consecutive season, averaging an impressive double-double performance each time she stepped onto the hardwood court.
Lofstrom connected on 2-pointers at a team-best accuracy clip of 61.9 percent -- 172 of 278 -- en route to generating 451 points and a 22.6-point average. The three-year varsity veteran also garnered 244 rebounds for a 12.2 pace, while distributing 36 assists, pocketing 21 steals and blocking a team-best 15 shots.
The perennial Top of Iowa West Division first-team conference choice will have numerous collegiate options to consider prior to and during her upcoming senior basketball campaign in 2019-20.
"Chloe has steadily improved since her freshman season and also throughout this season," said North Union head coach Merle Tigges. "After going to the state tournament a year ago, opposing teams were definitely aware of her, and she was double-teamed a lot this season and had to make a number of adjustments.
"Now we're looking forward to next season, and seeing what we can do in rebuilding a young team around her."
