Esther Mae (Isder) Bicknase was born on July 4, 1931, in Estherville, IA, the daughter of John and Katie (Kielman) Isder. She grew up on the family farm near Dolliver, IA, and attended school in Maple Hill, IA, graduating from Maple Hill High School with the class of 1951. Following her graduation, Esther worked in Estherville and was also a member of the Dolliver Lutheran Church.

After a move to Fairmont, Esther began her employment with 3M. On June 14, 1958, Esther was united in marriage to Rudolph H. Bicknase. Together the couple would make their home in Fairmont and were blessed with five children, Robert, Debra, Danny, Randy, and Sherri. After raising her family, Esther went on to work at Madsen’s, Randall’s and Hy-Vee until her retirement.

Esther was a true caregiver and found joy in taking care of others. Even after her move to Goldfinch Memory Care, Esther still had those that she watched out for. She loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. In her younger years, Esther enjoyed fishing and snowmobile trips. Her quiet time was spent with her son’s Yorkie, Missy and playing cards and bingo with family. Esther also cherished the memories made on her casino trips, shopping trips and also her trips to Red Lobster. She wasn’t afraid of the open road and looked forward to motorcycle rides and was one to never miss a garage sale. Her Fridays were spent shopping and going out to eat with her daughter, Sherri.
