Evelyn Laue
FAIRMONT -- Funeral services for Evelyn Laue, 85, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert, Minn. Burial will follow the service in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Evelyn passed away Wednesday evening, Jan. 2, 2019, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.
Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Evelyn Joan (Diersen) Laue was born March 13, 1933, in rural Martin County, Minn., the daughter of Adolph and Alma (Goebel) Diersen. She was baptized on March 26, 1933, and was later confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1947, both at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert. Evelyn attended grade school at St. Paul's Lutheran in Wilbert and later graduated from Fairmont High School with the class of 1951.
On June 5, 1953, Evelyn was united in marriage to Martin J. Laue at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert. Together the couple made their home on the Laue homestead farm in Tenhassen Township and there raised their five children: Donna, Mary, Russ, Jeff and Brenda. In addition, Evelyn and Martin also considered Mary Jo Doffing, and Mark, Shirley and Megan Maschoff as family.
Evelyn worked for a short time at First Bank and then became Martin's partner working on the family farm.
She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert, a member of the LWML and served her church in many different roles.
Evelyn served on the Ceylon School Board for six years and was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and the Truman Lutheran Retirement Home Auxiliary. She was active in the community and volunteered for many different projects and in the service of others.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Donna Laue of Mankato, Minn., Mary Mielke McManus and her husband, Dennis, of New Germany, Minn., Russ Laue and his wife, Julie, of Fairmont, Minn., Jeff Laue and his wife, Julie, of Fairmont, Minn., and Brenda Laue of Sioux Falls, S.D.; additional family, Mary Jo Doffing and Mark and Shirley Maschoff; grandchildren, Rachel (Mike) Ford, Jonathan Mielke, Laura (Chris) Hier, David (Mollee) Mielke, Joshua Mielke, Kristen (Luke) Thun, Jennifer (Jeremy) Jacob, Michael (Amy) Laue, Erica (Matt) Berhow, Katelyn (Mike) Steeves, Tyler (Jessica) Laue, Ben Post, Megan Maschoff, Kristina (Dan) Jorgensen, Lisa (Andy) Auld, Julie McManus and Martin McManus; 20 great-grandchildren; extended family, Lola and Lawrence Schultze, Marlene and Dennis Rolf, Tammy Diersen, Judith Gove, Gary and Jackie Diersen, Diane and Steve Chase, Jean and Paul Labbus, Linda and Gary Stangland, Leona Simonett, Bonnie Conner, Kari Wedel, and Norma Conner; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Laue; parents, Adolph and Alma Diersen; stepmothers, Clara and Elaine Diersen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry C. and Bertha Laue; brothers, Howard Diersen, Bruce Diersen and Roger Conner; sister, Carolyn Conner; brothers-in-law, Robert Gove and Lloyd Wedel; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Art and Annette Bremer, and Cord and Vivian Laue; son-in-law, Kendall Mielke; and great-grandchild, Brooke Lynn Laue.
