BLUE EARTH -- Faribault County commissioners received good news on the financial front Tuesday.
Moody's Investors Service has confirmed a bond rating of Aa3 for the county.
Faribault County was the last county audited by the state crew in this region. Moody's confirmed the rating as Aa3 in a recent report.
A quality bond rating like Aa3 helps a government entity such as Faribault County borrow funds for projects at a lower interest rate than could be had with a less-desirable bond rating.
In another matter, commissioners tabled a decision concerning the purchase of a skid loader.
A vote to purchase a Bobcat from Yeager Implement in Blue Earth ended in a 2-2 tie. There were only four commissioners present because John Roper is recovering from surgery and was unable to attend.
The county currently owns a CAT skid steer loader. Employees working in the Public Works Department like its performance and the outstanding service and parts available, according to Mark Daly, Public Works director.
Commissioner Greg Young pushed for purchasing the loader locally from Yeager Implement in Blue Earth at a cost that could be as much as $12,000 less than the CAT machine, depending on the warranty.
Commissioners Young and Tom Warmka voted in favor of buying the loader from Yeager while Tom Loveall and Bill Groskreutz voted against.
The board will take up the matter again when it meets March 5.
