Academy raises $93,000-plus
WINNEBAGO -- Genesis Classical Academy in Winnebago has announced that the 2018 $35,000 matching gift challenge has been completed, with $93,230 raised in donations and pledges.
"We are extremely grateful to our generous donors who have helped to make a Genesis Classical education available to as many students as possible," said Headmaster Renee Doyle. "This gift of a GCA education -- rooted in Christ, Character and Classical methodology -- will have a positive impact on our students, families, and the wider community, both now and into the future."
Family-paid tuition and fees account for about 47 percent of the cost to operate the school. Genesis Classical Academy depends on the generosity of the wider community to bridge the financial gap. Its goal is that no child be denied a Genesis education for financial reasons. Funds raised will be used for the operational expenses of the school and to provide scholarships for students.
Genesis Classical Academy is a nondenominational, Christian academy located on the campus of Heartland Senior Living in Winnebago. Classes are offered for preschool through seventh grade, with 74 students enrolled in for the current school year.
The Academy is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit, and accepts tax-deductible donations of any amount.

Storm sweeps across Midwest
CHICAGO (AP) -- A winter storm started sweeping across the Midwest on Friday, leading to slick roads and runways, as it inched its way toward New England, where it was forecast to dump up to 2 feet of snow.
The National Weather Service issued winter storm warnings from the Dakotas, across the Great Lakes states and into New England. The weather service at one point warned that conditions in New England over the weekend "could approach blizzard criteria." Ice was also a possibility in some areas in the storm's path.
In Iowa, the Department of Transportation warned that visibility was less than a half mile in many locations due to snow and wind. And in South Dakota, where snow was starting to pile up, authorities warned drivers to give plows extra room.
