FAIRMONT -- Martin County commissioners on Tuesday heard from Engineer Kevin Peyman, who gave a brief update on the resurfacing of County Road 26, from east of Fairmont to the Faribault County line.
Peyman said work has gone well so far, with the weather being a big factor in when it will be completed.
"The cold-in-place recycle is all done and the first lift, the hot mix that goes over top of it is all done and that usually takes the longest," he said. "They're about half done with the second lift, and if they have some good weather here it won't take them long to finish. Then there's a third lift that goes on and that one goes the fastest.
"At this point we're just hoping for the weather to cooperate. When they've had good days they've had good production, but they've had a lot of days with the weather that resulted in a partial day or no day at all. Then last week there was an accident out there that delayed them for part of a day, so it's just been spotty with things they can't control."
Peyman said that if the weather cooperates, the hot mix work will be mostly done, with remaining work to include bringing up shoulders and cleanup work.
Commissioner Steve Flohrs asked how the Flying Goose Campground was faring. Peyman replied that while he had not talked to the campground in a while, everything is going well as far as he knows.
"They let us know when they have weddings or other events, and if we know something is happening we've been encouraging traffic to go to [County Road] 53 and go in that way," Peyman said. "We've worked with them to make sure they're open one way or the other. I'm not going to pretend it hasn't been an inconvenience for them, but the last I talked to them things were OK."
In other news, the board:
o Heard from youth intervention and prevention coordinator Michelle Larsen. She thanked the board and other staff for attending the recent Teen Court Celebration. Larsen also presented a resolution to designate September as Teen Court Month. The board approved the resolution.
o Approved the hiring of Abigail Nesbit as Emergency Management Director for the Martin County Sheriff's Office.
