Fun event set for seniors

Former Truman/ Lewisville resident Irene Turner Clow is celebrating her 90th birthday with an open house from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Brandt Ridge Social Room in St. James. She requests no gifts, please.

STEP, Inc. wants to thank everyone for the overwhelming response of used jeans. They’re not collecting any more jeans at this time but will be needing them again later. Please save jeans that are in any condition for that future collection. These jeans are recycled to make rugs and other items.

Get moving, increase positivity and have fun with other people by joining Denise Wille as instructor for an exercise class from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Truman Elementary School activities room.

If you have a mat or set of weights, bring them too. You’ll work at your own pace walking, stretching, doing cardio exercises and more. What fun for free.

You are invited to join other senior citizens for fun and games 1:30 p.m. every Monday at the Truman Community Building. Come play corn hole, cards and other games and have an enjoyable afternoon of socializing. There is no charge. If you have any questions or suggestions, call Dick or Pat Eckmann at (507) 776-3981.

Truman City Council meets 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. This date change is due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

Truman Public School Board meets 6 p.m. Tuesday in the THS Learning Center.

The next recycling day is scheduled for Wednesday. Please have your container curbside by 7 a.m. for the recycling truck.

Second Harvest Heartland/NAPS for eligible seniors 60 years and up will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. To pre-register to receive a box of food items, call (800) 365-0270.

Homework help is available to all students in grades K-12 from 3-4 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday in the THS Learning Center. This help is free and you do not have to register ahead of time to attend.

Profinium’s Top of the Hill Club is sponsoring a trip to “Sister Act” on Feb. 21 at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater, but registration is due Jan. 19. You do not need to be a TOTHC member to attend. To register or have questions answered, call Ellen at (507) 235-7577.
