Homecoming celebrated

SHERBURN — They will grill burgers from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the Sherburn American Legion. Everyone is welcome to stop in.

Homecoming is being celebrated this week at Martin County West. Congratulations to Parker Anderson and Emma Behrends, who were crowned king and queen at coronation on Monday night. Tucker Buchan and Annie Baker were named prince and princess.

There will be pep fests, dress-up days, powder puff volleyball, powder tuff football and other activities going on all this week at MCW.

A parade will be held beginning 2 p.m. Friday, with a pep fest to follow at 2:30 p.m. on the football field.

The senior class chili feed will start at 4:30 p.m. Friday and continue through halftime of the football game.

The homecoming football game against Blue Earth Area will begin at 7 p.m. All former MCW homecoming kings and queens will be introduced at halftime of the game, and there will be a post-game alumni reception Friday night at the Sherburn American Legion.

Homecoming activities, games and an outdoor movie for MCW students will begin 7 p.m. Saturday outside of the high school in Sherburn.

Come out and give your support to the Mavericks during the 2017 homecoming festivities.

MCW senior class members are busy selling tickets for their traditional chili feed that will be held Friday night. The menu will include chili or soup, crackers, delicious cinnamon or caramel rolls and a beverage.

If you have not been contacted, please call a member of the class of 2018 or call the high school and ask them to have someone stop by your home. Tickets will also be available at the door on Friday night.

Fall swimming lessons will soon begin at the indoor swimming pool in Sherburn. Registration forms are available at the school or on the school website. For more information, please call (507) 764-2336.

A meeting for just the parents of any student, age 3 through 12th grade, who would like to take part in the Standing Ovation Dance Team will be 6 p.m. Thursday in the library at Sherburn Elementary School. Classes for the dance team will begin on Oct. 12 at the Sherburn Community Hall.

Once again during the fall/winter, there will be card playing on Thursday evenings at the Sherburn American Legion. Everyone is welcome.

CREST of Martin County will sponsor a pillow cleaning fundraiser from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at Evangelical Covenant Church on Woodland Avenue in Fairmont.

There will be one last coffee hour this month at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Welcome. Join them from 8:30-10 a.m. on Tuesday for coffee, baked goods and visiting.
