WINNEBAGO -- Heartland Senior Living, a local non-profit community corporation, has recently purchased three senior care providers in southern Minnesota from current owner ElderCare of Minnesota.
The three senior care providers are Parker Oaks Community in Winnebago, Parkview Care Center in Wells and Truman Senior Living in Truman. According to a press release, the three facilities employ 179 area workers and are licensed to provide housing and various levels of service to 164 residents.
Heartland Senior Living has been working on purchasing these senior care facilities since its inception in 2014. Three years later, the corporation received financial approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture a few weeks ago, with the final purchase agreement signed on Aug. 17. The loan is funded through a USDA Direct Loan and a USDA Guaranteed Loan through Profinium, Inc. in Truman.
Heartland Rural Service, a management consulting firm that specializes in senior care will continue to provide management services to the three senior care providers. The company has been operating the three locations under a management agreement for the past year.
Patrick Rafferty, Heartland Rural Service president and CEO, said the corporation has received a lot of support from the community and cities. They also received help from government representatives, such as Congressman Tim Walz, Sen. Al Franken and Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
"Heartland Senior Living and Heartland Rural Services really appreciate all of the support from all the local residents, elected officials and the business community," Rafferty said.
According to Rafferty, the corporation has plans for immediate renovation and construction. Renovations will include updates to the infrastructure, such as heating, cooling and overall facelifts to the building.
Other changes under this purchase will include improving service delivery for patients.
"We're going to be able to do it more efficiently, higher quality and more options," he said.
The company also will look to add staff members.
"We believe that there are enough employees in the area to fulfill the additional staffing needs that will be developed," Rafferty said.
The sale is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2017, with the company looking to start renovations in early 2018.
