Kawhi Leonard-led Raptors agree to multiyear contract extension with coach Darko Rajakovic

TORONTO (AP) — The Toronto Raptors have agreed to a multiyear contract extension with coach Darko Rajakovic, who will soon lead a team featuring Kawhi Leonard. The Raptors announced the agreement on Thursday, days after making a blockbuster deal to bring Leonard back the franchise he led to the 2019 NBA title. Rajakovic led Toronto to 46 wins last season, guiding the team to the playoffs for the first time since 2022 before losing in Game 7 of an first-round series against Cleveland. He helped the Raptors bounce back from winning 30 or fewer games the previous two seasons under ...

Alex Ovechkin declares ‘I’m back!’ and re-signs with Capitals to return for a 22nd NHL season

Alex Ovechkin is not ready to skate away from the NHL, not yet, and now he gets a chance to make his career goal-scoring record even more difficult to break. Ovechkin signed an incentive-laden deal Thursday to return for a 22nd season while also giving the Washington Capitals a chance to build a Stanley Cup contender and its longtime captain the opportunity to add to his jaw-dropping total of 929 goals. "I'm back!" Ovechkin said. Ovechkin, who turns 41 on Sept. 17, inked a deal with a $1 million salary and bonuses worth an additional $8 million. He receives a $3.25 million signing ...

Serena Williams wins praise from fellow pros at Wimbledon after 1st singles match in nearly 4 years

LONDON (AP) — There were still serves beyond 120 mph. Plenty of heavy groundstrokes landing within inches of the baseline, too. Serena Williams won plenty of praise about her game from her fellow players at Wimbledon a day after her first singles match in nearly four years. The 44-year-old Williams was beaten 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 by 20-year-old Maya Joint of Australia in the first round on Tuesday but showed she could be competitive after being away for so long. Coco Gauff ended her dinner early to find somewhere to watch Williams. "I think Serena's level was insane," Gauff said ...
