SUV-semi truck fatal incident Saturday in Butterfield
BUTTERFIELD TOWNSHIP — Minnesota State Patrol, Butterfield Fire Department, Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office, Saint James Police Department and Mayo Clinic Health Systems Saint James Ambulance responded to a fatal vehicle collision incident involving a 2024 Ford Bronco Sport and a 2023 Peterbilt Semi on 10:52 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, at Highway 60 and 660th Avenue in Butterfield Township in Watonwan County.
According to the MSP report, the Ford Bronco was traveling southbound on 660th Avenue. The Peterbilt semi was traveling westbound on Highway 60. The two vehicles then collided. The 2024 Ford Bronco Sport driver, Wayne G. Hanson, 83, of Butterfield, sustained fatal injuries. The passenger, Zelda C. Hanson, 83, of Butterfield, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Saint James Hospital. The 2023 Peterbilt Semi driver, Richard L. Sanow, 43, of Marshall, was unscathed. All individuals wore their seat belts. Alcohol did not contribute to the incident. The roads were described as dry.
