Kids' All-American Fishing Derby brings in many on June 6
FAIRMONT -- The 35th annual Kids’ All-American Fishing Derby was held on Saturday, June 6, at Gomsrud Park in Fairmont. Eighty children participated in the event, and 60 fish were weighed in. Prizes were awarded for the biggest fish, the smallest fish and the most fish caught.
A Kid’s Casting Contest was held in conjunction with the derby. 65 kids tried their skills at casting to a target in two age categories, under 11 and 11 to 16 years old.
The biggest fish was a walleye weighing 1.17 pounds, caught by Grant Simmering. The smallest fish was a panfish weighing .12 pounds, caught by Wesson Pierce. The most fish weighed in by one person were six fish, caught by Remington Pierce. All fish were released back into the lake. Casting contest winners were Monrroy Perez and Tate Johnson (TIE) under 11, and Madi Knake over 11. All participants went home with a new rod, reel and other prizes.
The annual event is hosted by the Fairmont Bass Seekers B.A.S.S. Nation Club and the Fairmont Early Risers Kiwanis Club. The event is made possible by donations and financial support from area businesses, Early Riser Kiwanis Club and Bass Seekers B.A.S.S. Nation Club.
