North Union volleyball improves to 6-0 on season

ARMSTRONG — The North Union Warrior volleyball team improved to 6-0 on the season by rallying for a 3-1 victory over the North Iowa Bison during Top of Iowa Conference action Tuesday night in Buffalo Center, Iowa.

The Bison claimed the opening game 25-20 before the Warriors reeled off consecutive wins of 25-18, 25-23, 25-11.

Olivia Merrill drilled 12 kills to pace a balanced North Union spiking attack, while teammates Olivia Von Bank, Emily Meyer and Brylie Deim contributed 10, 10 and nine kills, respectively, to the potent frontline performance.

Libby Stevens distributed 32 set assists and made nine digs for the Warriors, while Ella Ulrich topped the defense with 22 spike scoops. Meyer recorded 20 digs, Von Bank supplied 18 digs, Beth Streuber chipped in eight digs, while Merrill delivered four blocks.

Stevens also spearheaded North Union’s strong service game by connecting on 24 of 25 for four aces, while Meyer completed 17 of 19 at the line for three more aces.

Ulrich went 12 of 13 serving with a pair of aces, Streuber connected on 12 of 13 serves, Merrill went 12-for-12 at the line, while Aliyah Jones was 10 of 10 with two service aces.

North Union (6-0) plays host to Forest City tonight in Armstrong.

Waseca outlasted Fairmont during C-squad volleyball action, 2-1, Tuesday night in Waseca.

Andrea Mennen made five digs to top the Cardinals, while Kailyn Miller and Ashley Iverson served two aces apiece. Lilly Meyers tallied three kills, while Leslie Zarling dished out three assists.
