Fairmont Speech wins 2A subsection

FAIRMONT — On Monday, March 28, Fairmont hosted the MSHSL Subsection 2A South Speech Tournament. The Subsection 2A South teams competing were Fairmont, Maple River, River Valley, Madelia, Martin County West, Blue Earth Area, Alden-Conger, and Lake Crystal-Wellcome-Memorial. Fairmont qualified 26 individuals to the Section 2A Speech Tournament, which will be held Friday, April 8, at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton.

The Subsection 2A South Champions from Fairmont were senior Vanessa Schultze in creative, junior Solveig Senf in discussion, freshman Selvin Forsythe in drama, freshman Oliver Thedens in extemporaneous reading, freshman Dominick Lund-May in extemporaneous speaking, sophomore Isaiah Lockwood in great speeches, 8th grader Ella Krahmer in informative speaking, freshman Zoey Tasseff in poetry, and freshman Grace Simpson in storytelling.

In 2nd place from Fairmont was junior Lauren Wheeler in creative, senior Eleanor Hamlet in great speeches, 8th grader Thomas Hamlet in humorous, sophomore Sydney Blomster in informative speaking, sophomore Abi Peyman in original oratory, senior Kaycie Brookens in prose, and 8th grader Megan Wheeler in storytelling.

In 3rd place from Fairmont was senior Kara Fischer in drama, 8th grader Bel Lutterman in extemporaneous reading, sophomore Andrew Haefner in extemporaneous speaking, junior Lilly Laven in informative speaking, and freshman Alayna Haefner in original oratory.

In 5th place from Fairmont was freshman Season Kotewa in discussion, junior Sasha Franzen in drama, and 8th grader Levi Loughmiller in extemporaneous speaking.

In 6th Place from Fairmont was 7th grader Clark Hazard in discussion, and 7th grader Norah Heille in prose.

The Fairmont Speech Team was the MSHSL Subsection 2A South Team Champion in 1st place with 234 points. Maple River was the MSHSL Subsection 2A South Team Runner-Up in 2nd place with 114 points.
