Fairmont Speech victorious at home

FAIRMONT — On Saturday, March 26, the Fairmont Speech Team competed at The “Fairmont Finale” Speech Tournament hosted by Fairmont High School.

In the varsity division, Fairmont had 15 finalists. Junior Lauren Wheeler took 5th place in creative expression; Senior Vanessa Schultze took 7th place in creative expression and 6th place in prose reading; Junior Solveig Senf was the champion in discussion; Senior Kara Fischer was the champion in dramatic interpretation; Senior Kara Fischer and Sophomore Selvin Forstythe took 3rd place in duo interpretation; Freshman Dominick Lund-May took 3rd place in extemporaneous speaking; Senior Eleanor Hamlet was the champion in great speeches; Sophomore Isaiah Lockwood took 3rd place in great speeches; Sophomore Sydney Blomster was the champion in informative speaking; Junior Lilly Laven took 5th place in informative speaking; 8th grader Ella Krahmer took 6th place in informative speaking; Senior Kaycie Brookens took 2nd place in original oratory and 2nd place in prose reading; Freshman Alayna Haefner took 6th place in original oratory; Sophomore Abi Peyman took 7th place in original oratory; and 8th grader Megan Wheeler took 6th place in storytelling.

In the novice division, Fairmont had 6 finalists. 8th grader Sanjna Venigalla took 4th place in dramatic interpretation; 8th grader Bryanna Petschke took 2nd place in extemporaneous speaking; 8th grader Levi Loughmiller took 3rd place in extemporaneous speaking; 8th grader Moriah Riemann took 4th place in extemporaneous speaking; 8th grader Cheyenne Abel took 2nd place in informative speaking; and 8th grader Madisyn Peyman took 3rd place in informative speaking.

In team sweepstakes, Fairmont took 1st place with 88 points, Marshall took 2nd place with 57 points, and Mayo High School took 3rd place with 37 points.
