Fairmont Speech wins Bulldog Tournament

FAIRMONT — On Saturday, March 19, the Fairmont Speech Team competed at The “Bulldog” Speech Tournament hosted by Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton.

In the varsity division, Fairmont had 17 finalists. Junior Solveig Senf took 3rd place in discussion; Senior Kara Fischer took 2nd place in drama; Freshman Selvin Forsythe took 6th place in drama; Freshman Dominick Lund-May took 2nd place in extemporaneous speaking and 5th place in great speeches; Sophomore Andrew Haefner took 6th place in extemporaneous speaking; Senior Eleanor Hamlet was the champion in great speeches and took 4th place in humorous; Sophomore Isaiah Lockwood took 4th place in great speeches; Junior Lilly Laven took 2nd place in informative; Sophomore Sydney Blomster took 3rd place in informative, 8th grader Ella Krahmer took 6th place in informative; Senior Kaycie Brookens took 2nd place in original oratory and 2nd place in prose; Sophomore Abi Peyman took 5th place in original oratory; Senior Vanessa Schultze was the champion in prose; and Freshman Grace Simpson took 5th place in storytelling.

In the novice division, Fairmont had six finalists. 7th grader Clark Hazard took 6th place in discussion; 8th grader Sanjna Venigalla took 5th place in drama; 8th grader Bel Lutterman took 3rd place in extemporaneous reading; 8th grader Cheyenne Abel took 2nd place in informative; 8th grader Isaac Stone took 5th place in original oratory; 7th grader Norah Heille took 3rd place in prose; and 8th grader Megan Wheeler was the champion in storytelling.

In team sweepstakes, Fairmont took 1st place with 121 points. Jordan took 2nd place with 75 points, and Mankato West took 3rd place with 53 points. The Fairmont Speech Team is coached by Kathleen Walker, Erik Walker and Miles Duffey.
